As anyone knows, no two diamonds are alike.
Consider this: two diamonds might have the same princess cut, but at one time, those diamonds were raw, and the dimension of each cut somewhat relies on the beginning shape of each diamond’s raw shape. Consequently, two diamonds that have the same cut style will require a gem cutter to make different allowances regarding where and how to cut in order to ensure the best quality diamond. Compared to one another, some dimensions of each diamond’s cut will be different within a degree of tolerance, and this cut difference affects the way the light reflects–sparkles–within each stone.
Similarly, there are differences in color that affect so-called white diamonds, and this color, or lack of color, will vary from stone to stone. Even when a gemologist rates two diamonds with the same color rating, those diamonds are somewhat different. Clarity indicates how clear a diamond is, meaning the number of inclusions, or flaws it has. A diamond’s clarity will also vary depending on the shape or size of the inclusions, and these inclusions can give the stone a certain aura or personality because like cut and color, clarity affects sparkle.
Carat is determined by weight, one carat equaling .2 grams. Two stones of the exact same carat will by definition be the same weight. However, three of the four Cs of diamonds are always different, which means two apparently similar diamonds are, in fact, vastly different–as they should be.
That special symbol
All this lengthy explanation is important in order to make a comparatively simple point… for that one special moment when two people are betrothed, one to another, forever-the symbol of that love, the symbol of that affection, the symbol of that promised union—the engagement ring– should be as equally unique as the diamond.
Design Quote
The first step is a design quote.
During the design stage, we, of course, gather information about the physical attributes of the perfect ring, but we also gather information about the ring’s purpose and style. Will the ring be an engagement ring? Is it for something else? Is the client recreating the ring from something seen earlier? Is it for a wedding? All these questions might seem superfluous, but Michael F. & Company represents over 25 years of commitment. When it comes to custom rings, that commitment means helping each person design a ring that fits perfectly its intended purpose. As are a family jewelry boutique, our commitment is threefold.
1. Each client receives a diamond consultation. 2. The custom diamond is then cut to perfection. 3. The precious metal in which the diamond will be cradled is also crafted and shaped to the precise desired dimensions.
Custom gallery
Whether our clients desire a custom diamond ring or a custom diamond engagement ring, the truth of the matter is this—all this talk is not just sales talk.
We, the jewelers behind Michael F. & Company, take deep pride in our custom creations. Yes, of course, over the course of a quarter century, we have helped thousands of people find their own perfect rings. However, our true love is in customizing rings, engagement rings or otherwise, for our clients.
The proof can be seen in our custom jewelry gallery. Take a moment to review it. Each of those hundreds upon hundreds of rings are custom creations. Look carefully because the beauty you will see is not only in the stone, it is not in the carefully wrought gold or silver or titanium or stainless steel. It is not in the platinum, otherwise known as white gold. Yes, each of those rings represents many, many hours of painstakingly exact craftsmanship, and although each jeweler will forever take special pride in each and every one of those creations—the unseen beauty within those photos are the actual smiles of the clients, the expressions of true joy. If you haven’t guessed, those aren’t the hands of paid models. Those are our clients’ hands.
