One of the unique, yet trendy, styles of engagement rings that are favored by Michael F Diamond customers today is a diamond solitaire set in a pave setting. But what is a pave setting? And does this type of diamond setting work well for an engagement ring?

A pave setting is a ring style that consists of numerous gemstones, usually diamonds, that a placed in a setting where the stones are close together. Also, the diamonds sit almost even to the band of the ring, making it smooth and sparkly at the same time. The prongs don’t catch on things like clothing and don’t poke your skin when you choose a pave setting. A pave setting also looks vintage, which has a great appeal for those who love Art Deco and other antique styles.

In some pave designs, the entire ring consists of many tiny diamonds that are pave set. In other types of settings, a larger diamond is accented by surrounding pave diamonds and diamonds on the ring’s band. To mount these small diamonds, the gems are placed where desired in the ring, and beads of metal are soldered on that hold each stone in place. The look of the dots that hold these little diamonds on virtually disappears when the setting is completed. So the ring appears to have a steady ribbon of diamonds around the ring’s band and around the primary center diamond.

One of the most frequently selected styles of engagement ring settings includes the halo setting. The halo setting remains a favorite of celebrities and royalty alike and is quite favored by our customers as well. A halo setting uses the pave concept by including a sizeable focal diamond surrounded by smaller, pave diamonds. This type of setting makes the focal diamond look larger and adds extra sparkle and gleam to the ring’s look.

A primary advantage of using the pave setting as opposed to the bezel type of setting is that pave settings are much more secure than are bezel settings. In pave settings, each tiny diamond has its beads that hold the diamonds securely in place. Also, the pave setting makes the set stone appear more significant than it is, adding to the stunning effect of the stone.
